A test and tag is a professionally done electrical inspection of all appliances and equipment in a workplace to make sure there is no damage, electrical faults or risk of electrical hazards. All workplaces are required to regularly schedule these inspections in order to ensure a safe working environment, although the frequency of these inspections depends largely on the type of workplace.

During a test and tag, a qualified electrical inspector will visually inspect and test each appliance and piece of equipment and then tag each item with a Pass or Fail. Each inspection will end with detailed testing results and, in the case of a Fail tag, advice on which steps should be taken next.
